A radiologist is a physician that specializes in the field of radiology. He or she interprets medical images known as X-rays, CT scans, MRI and Ultrasound. A radiologist may even use radioactive materials for medical imaging and may have as much training as a surgeon, depending on their field of expertise.
Interventional radiology is another area that a physician may specialize in. This specialty offers a minimally invasive alternative to surgery. This area of expertise helps thousands of patients with heart disease, osteoporosis, tumors and many other conditions, who are not able to undergo traditional surgery. This is possible by the radiologist inserting a tiny endoscope (a tube with a viewer inside the body) through a vein or artery. The radiologists the monitor and manipulates his or her instruments outside the body.
Many procedures are performed by radiologists at Imaging Consultants of Findlay.
